One week to go

Ellie has been with David for three years and they've decided to tie the knot. She tells us how planning the big day can turn into something like a military operation.

Ellie has a hen night to remember involving champagne, fake poo and lashings of Ben and Jerry's.

Reading my last diary entry, I realised I wasn't in a very good place. Luckily, that's all changed now and to be honest, I can't wait for the wedding to happen.

I had my hen night last week. There was no undignified vomiting into gutters, but a wonderful curry and then several bottles of wine each. I don't think I'd have had it any other way. I love my friends, and I know how lucky I am to have them. They made me a fantastic 'memory bag' full of little reminders of the last ten years, which included some fake poo, a model cow, some wax earplugs, a box of Tunnocks Teacakes and a button among other things. They all had little labels attached explaining each memory which I've kept and put in a scrap book. I'm not going to divulge what memories they represented. The night was topped off with a big bottle of champagne and an entire tub of Ben and Jerry's to myself and you have one contented Ellie. Random quote of the night - 'they give me a squirrel fanny, and not in a good way either' .This was from my rather tipsy friend on some baggy pyjama bottoms.

The random quote of the night was: "they give me a squirrel fanny, and not in a good way either"

I've also been very busy. I'm not 100% confident of the fact that everything is arranged, but for once it does appear the case. The flowers are bought, the church is sorted, the clothes, the food, the transport... it's all done. I don't know how I've managed it to be perfectly honest, but I've now got a whole week to just relax. I have to say, I'm very much looking forward to the honeymoon as neither David or I have had a holiday in several years.

I don't think I'll realise how close the big day is until the rehearsal on Friday. I've been obsessively checking the weather forecasts and so far it looks like it will be sunny and calm. This is a very rare occurrence in Cumbria, so I'm crossing my fingers, toes, eyes and everything else in sight.
